Echoing Rainbow Blunderbuss

Item

Echoing Rainbow Blunderbuss

Appearance

The weapon’s barrel is forged from a mysterious blackened metal with silver filament patterns depicting cloud swirls and lightning bolts. Its stock holds an intricate carving of Freyja, arms outstretched, channeling a storm.

Origins

Legend has it that Freyja, with the first prototype of the blunderbuss, climbed the highest peak during a storm and fired into the heavens, challenging the gods. The next lightning bolt struck her weapon, not destroying it, but imbuing it with the storm’s fury.

The rainbow aesthetic is a reflection of what came after the storm. Freyja was never seen again, but the Blunderbuss remained. Nobody has been able to recreate such a unique item since her disappearance.

Properties:

  • The rifle has a Range of 60/240 feet and deals 1d10 lightning damage on a hit.

  • You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.

The rifle regains all expended charges daily at dawn.

Spirit of the Storm:

If attuned by a Dwarf, once per long rest, the wielder can invoke the spirit of the storm, causing their next shot to crackle intensely. The next hit target is also knocked back 10 feet and is Stunned until the end of their next turn.

Rarity: Very rare (requires attunement by Dwarf)

| Martial weapon | Ranged weapon | 2lb |
| 1d8 lightning – ammunition (150/600 ft.) | Heavy | Two-handed |

Description:
Born amidst thunder and fury, the Echoing Rainbow Blunderbuss was the masterpiece of the tempest-touched tinkerer, Freyja Thunderhand of the Stormsong clan. She claimed the early inspirations of the Blunderbuss came from the storms she’d dance in atop the Thundercliff Mountains.

The rainbow barrel is forged from a mysterious blackened metal with silver filament patterns depicting cloud swirls and lightning bolts. Its stock holds an intricate carving of Freyja, arms outstretched, channeling a storm. However, upon second inspection you notice only one arm outstretched.

Properties:
When you hit with an attack using the Rainbow Blunderbuss, you can choose to unleash the stored storm energy, wrapping your target in swirling winds. A hit imposes a Disadvantage on the target’s next attack or ability check due to the buffeting winds. This feature can be used a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum once) and all expended uses recharge at dawn.

The blunderbuss grants a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls. Damage is dealt with 3d6 thunder damage, echoing the sound of distant thunder with each shot.

Dwarven Marksmanship (Ranger perk):

When wielded by a Dwarf Ranger, the Rainbow Blunderbuss harmonizes with the deep, innate connection dwarves have with the earth and stone. This resonance causes the weapons’ thunderous shots to vibrate at a frequency familiar to dwarves, aiding them in their precision.

As a result, when a dwarf uses the weapon, they gain the ability to “Mark the Quarry”. Once per short or long rest, they can take a bonus action to mark a target. The next shot they fire at this marked target does not consume any Ammunition from the weapon. This represents the dwarf’s ability to utilize the weapon’s resonating energy in the most efficient manner possible.

Legendary (levels 17-20+) Dwarf
L Echoing Rainbow Blunderbuss of Elemental Fury
Weapon: Blunderbuss, Magical
Rarity: Legendary (requires attunement by Dwarf)

| Martial weapon | Ranged weapon | 2lb |
| 1d8 piercing – ammunition (150/600 ft.) | Heavy | Two-handed |

Forged in the heart of the Thundermounts, the blunderbuss is the epitome of Dwarven craftsmanship combined with elemental fury. This weapon’s barrel is said to contain the breath of storm giants and the echoes of ancient dwarven chants.

It is thought Freya’s father passed this down to her because images of a young girl are depicted on the weapon. Some believe over the years she developed Special modifications, not the weapon itself.

Properties:

  • You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
  • The blunderbuss has a Range of 150/600 ft. It deals 4d6 thunder damage on a hit. Animate Dead
  • Reverberating Chamber: This rifle doesn’t need traditional Ammunition. Instead, it draws power from the thunderous energies bound within. As such, it ignores the Loading property and is Autoloading.
  • Thunder’s Echo: Upon a critical hit, the target and all creatures within 10 feet of the target must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be Deafened for 1 minute.
  • Dwarven Resonance: When wielded by a dwarf, the rifle harmonizes with their deep connection to earth and stone. Once per short or long rest, a dwarf can take a bonus action to mark a target. The next shot they fire at this marked target automatically becomes a critical hit if it lands.

Sentience:

The Echoing Rainbow Blunderbuss is a sentient neutral weapon with an Intelligence of 16, a Wisdom of 12, and a Charisma of 16. It has hearing and darkvision out to a Range of 120 feet. The weapon communicates by transmitting emotions to the creature carrying or wielding it like vibrations experienced after a thunderclap.

Personality:

The blunderbuss’s purpose is to showcase the might of Dwarven craftsmanship and elemental fury. It gets frustrated if used ineffectively in battle. If the user consistently performs poorly in combat or avoids conflict, the rifle might try to sever its bond with its current wielder, seeking a more capable dwarf.

Gothic Bow of the Elemental Nexus
Type: Weapon, Longbow C U R V L

Stories whisper that the bow chooses its wielder based on their bond with the elements. It’s said that when the bow resonates with the soul of its user, it unlocks hidden potentials, allowing the wielder to tap into advanced elemental manipulations. Some say there are more gems to be discovered, representing elements beyond the primary three, awaiting a truly worthy archer.

R Gothic Bow of the Elemental Whispers
Weapon: Longbow, Magical
Rarity: Rare (requires attunement)

Martial weapon, ranged weapon, 2lb
1d8 piercing – Ammunition (150/600 ft.), Heavy, Two-Handed

Description:
This bow, carved from deep mahogany, carries traces of silver designs that twinkle subtly when caught in the right Light. Accompanying the bow is a quiver fashioned from dark leather, embossed lightly with faded silver patterns reminiscent of the bow. Within the quiver lie three semi-translucent gems that hint at elemental powers contained within.

Said to be a precursor or perhaps a sibling to the “Gothic Bow of the Elemental Nexus”, this bow was crafted by an elven artificer who was still honing their skills in elemental magic. While not as potent as its legendary counterpart, the whispers of the elements can still be heard by those attuned to this unique bow.

Gems:

  1. Ruby Shard: A fractured gem that warms upon touch. It whispers tales of embers and flame.
  2. Sapphire Fragment: A cool, smooth sliver of a gem that carries the essence of a chilled breeze.
  3. Topaz Sliver: A jagged piece that hums with a subtle, electrifying pulse.

Abilities:

  1. Elemental Whisper: As a bonus action, the wielder can touch one of the gems before drawing an arrow, allowing it to briefly carry the gem’s element. The next arrow shot from the bow deals an extra 1d4 damage of that element ( fire, cold, or lightning). This effect lasts until an arrow is shot or for 1 minute.
  2. Elemental Harmony: If the wielder hits a single target with all three elemental arrows within a duration of 10 minutes, the arrows resonate in harmony. The target suffers an additional 1d6 force damage as the energies combine and clash.
  3. Elemental Challenge: Once per long rest, the wielder can challenge the energies of the bow. They can decide to imbue two arrows with different elements and shoot them simultaneously at two different targets. If both arrows hit, each target suffers 1d4 of the respective elemental damage and is affected by a condition for one round:
    • Fire: Target is set on fire, taking an additional 1d4 fire damage at the start of its next turn.
    • Ice: Target’s movement speed is halved for 2 rounds. While the target’s speed is halved, it takes a −2 penalty to AC and Dexterity saving throws.
    • Lightning: Target cannot take reactions and flammable objects in the area that aren’t being worn or carried burst into flames in a 10ft radius. Those directly aside from burning objects suffer 2d6 fire damage on a failed save.

Drawback:
Elemental Fatigue: After using the Elemental Harmony ability, the gems seem to lose their luster. The Elemental Whisper ability cannot be used again until after a short or long rest.

Very Rare (levels 11-20) Dwarf Ranger
V Gothic Bow of the Elemental Nexus
Weapon: Longbow, Magical
Rarity: Very rare (requires attunement)

Martial weapon, ranged weapon, 2lb
1d8 piercing – Ammunition (150/600 ft.), Heavy, Two-Handed

Description:
This bow, carved from ebony, is intertwined with intricate silver designs that glow faintly in dim Light. The quiver accompanying this weapon is made of black leather, adorned with silver patterns matching the bow. Three prominent sockets in the quiver house enchanted gems, each pulsating with raw elemental power.

Gems:

  1. Ruby of Fiery Conduit (Red Gem): Imbues arrows with the essence of fire, causing them to ignite upon release.
  2. Sapphire of Frozen Eternity (Blue Gem): Channels the cold of the Arctic, sheathing arrows in a layer of frost.
  3. Topaz of Storm’s Wrath (Yellow Gem): Saturates arrows with lightenning energy, making them crackle and spark.

Abilities:

  1. Elemental Imbue: As a bonus action, the wielder can touch one of the gems and draw an arrow, imbuing it with the gem’s element. The next arrow shot from the bow deals an extra 1d6 damage of that element ( fire, cold, or lightning). This effect lasts for 1 minute or until an arrow is shot.
  2. Nexus Synergy: If the wielder successfully hits a target with all three elemental arrows within a span of 10 minutes, the target suffers a Nexus Burst. The energies react with each other, dealing an additional 2d6 force damage.
  3. Elemental Overflow: Once per long rest, as an action, the wielder can channel a maximum of three gems simultaneously, enveloping the bow in a whirlwind of elemental energies. Roll 1d4 to determine the number of gems you channel. Numbers 1 to 3 represent the number of channeled gems, while number 4 causes 1d6 damage from the draw string to the user. Each arrow respectively adds an extra 1d6 fire, 1d6 cold, and 1d6 lightning damage.

Drawback:
Elemental Backlash: Using the Elemental Overflow ability exhausts the power of the gems. After using this ability, the Elemental Imbue cannot be used again until after a long rest.

Legendary (levels 17-20+) Dwarf
L Gothic Bow of the Elemental Maelstrom
Weapon: Longbow, Magical
Rarity: Legendary (requires attunement)

Martial weapon, ranged weapon, 2lb
1d8 piercing – Ammunition (150/600 ft.), Heavy, Two-Handed

Description:
Forged at the convergence of the Elemental Planes, during an event that happens once every millennium, this bow is the culmination of elemental essence and primeval craftsmanship. It’s believed only a being with an unyielding spirit and will can harness its raw power without being consumed. The bow’s legends stretch back eons, with tales of it turning the tide in apocalyptic battles, reshaping landscapes, and even once piercing the veil between realms.

Fashioned from the heartwood of an ancient World Tree and adorned with shimmering ethereal runes, this bow radiates an aura of controlled elemental chaos. The quiver, crafted from the shadows of primordial beasts, is inlaid with gleaming patterns that mirror the constellations. Four iridescent gems, each holding a roaring elemental tempest within, are securely embedded in the quiver.

Gems:

  1. Inferno Ruby: A blazing heart of the Elemental Plane of Fire, it churns with ceaseless flame.
  2. Eternal Abyss Sapphire: Encapsulating the deepest cold of the Elemental Plane of Water, it’s a chilling void.
  3. Tempest Topaz: A furious storm from the Elemental Plane of Air, always crackling, always restless.
  4. Stalwart Stone Emerald: Grounding and unyielding, it represents the unwavering strength of the Elemental Plane of Earth.

Abilities:

  1. Elemental Fury: As a bonus action, the wielder touches one of the gems to imbue their next shot. The arrow, when released, deals an extra 2d6 damage of the chosen element and carries a secondary effect:
    • Fire: Ignites the target, dealing 1d6 fire damage at the start of its next two turns.
    • Ice: Freezes the target’s feet, reducing its movement speed by half for its next turn.
    • Lightning: Overcharges the target’s muscles, causing it to lose its next bonus action.
    • Earth: The ground beneath the target becomes difficult terrain in a 10-foot radius for 1 minute.
  2. Elemental Resonance: If the wielder hits a single target with arrows imbued by all four elements within a duration of 10 minutes, the target is enveloped by an Elemental Vortex, suffering 4d6 force damage and being Stunned until the end of its next turn.
  3. Maelstrom Release: Once per long rest, as an action, the wielder can unleash the full maelstrom of elemental energy contained within the bow. The next shot becomes an Elemental Nova, combining all elements. This arrow deals 2d6 fire, 2d6 cold, 2d6 lightning, and 2d6 bludgeoning damage. The target and all creatures within 10 feet of it must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked Prone.

Drawback:
Elemental Overload: After using Maelstrom Release, the elemental gems become momentarily dim. The Elemental Fury ability cannot be used again until after a long rest.
